This guidance supports DoD system design, development, implementation, certification, and accreditation efforts. Guidance in these documents applies only to Apple OS X 10.8 and related components on end- user workstations, and excludes any other components or software running on end-user workstations. Many older Macs lost out on the ability to run OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), but some hard working fellows have created a free third party tool called MLPostFactor that allows for the newest version of OS X to be installed on older, officially unsupported Macs. These requirements are designed to assist Security Managers (SMs), Information Assurance Managers (IAMs), IAOs, and System Administrators (SAs) with configuring and maintaining security controls.
